Nyanga, Gabon — The Programme Multisectoriel de Lutte contre le Sida (PMLS) has relaunched its HIV testing initiatives in Nyanga province, Gabon, marking a crucial step in the fight against the disease.
The campaign, which commenced on April 16, 2026, in Tchibanga, the provincial capital, aims to implement interventions against HIV and sexually transmitted infections (STIs) through voluntary, free, and anonymous testing.
The PMLS, under the national tutelage of the Direction générale de la prévention du sida (DGPS) and supported by the regional health authority, has been instrumental in providing services to an average of fifty volunteers daily, spanning ages 18 and above. Guy Roger Mouth Bouity Manguila, the provincial coordinator of the PMLS, emphasizes the importance of these multisectorial programs in achieving national HIV/AIDS control objectives.
In alignment with national guidelines, the PMLS has been instrumental in disseminating and implementing health ministry strategies, focusing on sensitization, patient follow — up, and resource mobilization.
The program’s resumption follows a hiatus in 2025 and reflects a commitment to the Global AIDS Strategy 2026–2031, which targets universal HIV testing, treatment, and viral load management. While the campaign is a significant development, challenges remain, including potential funding gaps that could impact the sustainability of community programs and screening centers.
As of April 2026, Gabon has yet to secure formal financing from the International Monetary Fund (IMF), though discussions are ongoing.
The success of the PMLS campaign relies on active community participation, which has been increasingly supportive of HIV/AIDS prevention efforts.
The government and its partners are committed to ensuring the necessary resources for these critical services, aiming to support those living with HIV in Nyanga and beyond.
The relaunch of the PMLS in Nyanga province is a testament to Gabon’s ongoing commitment to combatting HIV/AIDS. With a focus on community engagement and strategic partnerships, the program seeks to create a sustainable and effective response to the disease, ultimately improving the health and well-being of the province’s residents.
