Two Gabonese Men Arrested in Lambaréné with 7,890 Tramadol Tablets BODY: LAMBARÉNÉ, Gabon – Two Gabonese nationals, Olivier Ogoula, 32, and Ferdinand Egomba, in his sixties, have been placed in pre-trial detention at the central prison in Lambaréné for illegal possession of psychotropic substances following the seizure of 7,890 tramadol tablets by the provincial branch of the General Directorate of Research (DGR) of the National Gendarmerie, according to the Gabonese Press Agency from judicial sources.
The incident dates back to the early hours of June 26, 2026.
A patrol of the National Gendarmerie’s Squadron (EGN) intercepted a vehicle carrying several passengers in the Moussamoukoungou neighborhood of Lambaréné’s first arrondissement. During the check, Olivier Ogoula was found in possession of 789 tablets, totaling 7,890 tramadol tablets, valued at 7,990,000 CFA francs. After being interrogated by DGR investigators, the suspect stated that he had been solicited by an acquaintance residing in Port-Gentil to pick up a package at the Bifoun roundabout in the Abanga-Bigné department, with the intention of transporting it to Lambaréné for delivery to a third party.
Investigators then set up surveillance at the agreed location. It was within this context that Ferdinand Egomba was intercepted while attempting to retrieve the contraband, concealed in a trash bag containing clothing. Following their detention, the two men were presented before a judge of instruction, who issued detention warrants against them.
They are being prosecuted for illegal possession of psychotropic substances, an offense provided for and punished by Article 406 of the Penal Code. This new seizure comes amidst a surge in the trafficking of drugs in the Moyen-Ogooué province. Several security sources indicate that defense and security services are intensifying control operations to curb this phenomenon.
