Gabon’s CLAC Tchibanga Receives Document Fund to Bolster Cultural and Literacy Efforts TCHIBANGA, Gabon – The Centre de lecture et d’animation culturelle (CLAC) in Tchibanga, located in the southwest of Gabon, has been significantly bolstered by a substantial document fund.
The donation, received on June 18, 2026, aims to enhance the center’s operational capabilities and further its mission in promoting literacy and cultural engagement.
The fund, secured through the efforts of the Ministry of National Education and Civil Instruction, was officially accepted by the Mayor of Tchibanga, Pierre Boussougou.
The package includes essential equipment such as sound systems, multimedia tablets, laptops, and educational literature, all of which are intended to expand the center’s range of programs and activities. Nicolas Bounounou, the Director General of Civil Education and Literacy, spoke on behalf of the Minister of State, Camélia Ntoutoume Leclercq, emphasizing the government’s commitment to revitalizing the CLACs in partnership with cultural sector stakeholders. He highlighted the importance of modern and inviting spaces that encourage intellectual and cultural growth, especially in the face of the accelerating pace of daily life and the rise of artificial intelligence.
Acknowledging the donation, Bounounou expressed gratitude on behalf of the youth of Nyanga, recognizing the support from both national authorities and the Organisation internationale de la Francophonie (OIF). Despite the progress, the CLAC in Tchibanga faces challenges, including the rehabilitation of its building and the improvement of functional amenities.
The recent donation follows the renewal of a convention between the Gabonese government and the OIF, signed on November 18, 2024.
The OIF has contributed to strengthening the national document fund and provided cultural and educational works.
The CLACs, which have been in existence in Gabon since 1993, are community-based centers designed to foster reading and cultural activities. This donation is a testament to the government’s dedication to nurturing these cultural hubs, which are vital for community cohesion and education.
The document fund will enable CLAC Tchibanga to offer a more diverse array of services, contributing to the broader goal of enhancing literacy and cultural engagement across Gabon.
As the country progresses, these cultural centers will play a crucial role in shaping the future of its citizens.
