Gabon’s Haut-Ogooué Authorities Briefed on PUDC Development Priorities BODY: FRANCEVILLE, Gabon – Authorities in the Haut-Ogooué region of Gabon received a comprehensive briefing on the Programme d’urgence de développement communautaire (PUDC), a national initiative aimed at accelerating rural development and reducing territorial inequalities.
The meeting, convened in Franceville, was led by the Prefect of the Mpassa Department, Rafael Obali, who represented the Governor, and included the President of the Departmental Council, prefects from eleven departments, and various local administrative and elected officials.
The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) delegation, a technical partner of the PUDC, outlined the program’s objectives and operational modalities.
The PUDC is designed to bring essential services closer to communities by addressing identified needs in villages, cantons, and departments. It is a strategic tool to enhance access to basic social services and support local economic initiatives.
The authorities were informed of the four priorities for the province, starting with improving access to potable water through well drilling and water supply system upgrades.
The rehabilitation of school infrastructure was also highlighted, aimed at providing a safer and more suitable learning environment. Strengthening the health service provision and deploying solar solutions in isolated areas to improve electricity access were other critical components of the program. Local authorities were encouraged to play a central role in identifying needs, monitoring project progress, and implementing the program across the eleven departments of Haut-Ogooué.
This participatory approach is expected to ensure the effective and sustainable execution of the program.
The briefing in Haut — Ogooué is part of a broader effort to ensure the PUDC is well-understood and effectively implemented at the local level, with close collaboration between community leaders and stakeholders to align the program with the needs and aspirations of the population it serves.
