The webinar highlighted the vulnerabilities in the global health architecture amidst the decline of multilateralism and the withdrawal of some states from international institutions, including the World Health Organization (WHO). Stéphanie Tchiombiano, an associate professor at the University of Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne, emphasized the weakening of multilateralism due to the disengagement of major states. Ida Rose Ndione, Regional Director of Amref Health Africa for West Africa, advocated for strengthening the health capacities and strategic autonomy of African nations.
REMAPSEN President Bamba Youssouf announced plans for a Media Forum in October 2026 in Ghana to enhance African media’s contribution to international health debates.
The webinar underscored the need for a coordinated approach to address health challenges in Africa, including improving disease surveillance and response systems, leveraging technology and innovation, and advocating for increased investment in health systems. It also called for better coordination among stakeholders and a stronger African voice in global health governance.
