VICTORIA, SEYCHELLES — The Republic of Seychelles has introduced its fourth Country Cooperation Strategy (CCS-4), a comprehensive framework designed to elevate health and well-being across the archipelago. This strategic document, which spans from 2024 to 2030, was developed through a consultative process involving a diverse range of stakeholders, including government officials, the United Nations, development partners, civil society, the private sector, and academic institutions.
The CCS — 4, crafted under the Ministry of Health’s technical working group from July 2023 to February 2024, is fully aligned with the National Health Policy and the National Health Strategic Plan, ensuring that the health sector’s objectives are in harmony with the country’s broader development goals. It also harmonizes with international health agendas, including the World Health Organization’s Global Policy Work and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
The overarching strategic goal of the CCS — 4 is to promote, deliver, and safeguard the health and well-being of all Seychellois, irrespective of age, gender, cultural background, or socioeconomic status. This inclusive approach is particularly significant for Seychelles, which has historically faced unique health challenges due to its geographical isolation and small population.
The strategy identifies three strategic priorities: addressing the determinants of health, enhancing person-centered health services, and improving health system resilience. These priorities are in response to the health sector’s challenges, such as socio-economic stressors, the growing burden of non-communicable diseases (NCDs), climate-change induced health risks, and limitations in health services delivery.
The CCS — 4 outlines specific deliverables and interventions for each priority, aiming to create a more inclusive and equitable health system. It recognizes that health is influenced by various factors, including economic development, education, and social determinants. International partners, including the World Health Organization, will play a pivotal role in supporting Seychelles’health sector transformation.
The CCS — 4 is a strategic document that guides health sector cooperation between Seychelles and the WHO from 2024 to 2030, outlining goals and strategic priorities for enhancing the health and well-being of the Seychellois population.
As Seychelles embarks on this new phase of health sector development, the CCS — 4 provides a clear roadmap for the future. By prioritizing the health and well-being of its population, the country is not only addressing immediate challenges but also investing in its long-term sustainability and resilience.
The successful implementation of the CCS — 4 will require the commitment and participation of all stakeholders. With a strategic plan in place and the support of international partners, Seychelles is poised to make significant strides in improving the health and well-being of its citizens.
