MOGADISHU, SOMALIA (SONNA) — The Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) has conducted a series of precision strikes that have successfully neutralized two senior commanders of the Khawaarij network. The operations, which targeted key leadership figures, were executed in the Middle Juba and Lower Shabelle regions.
During the latest operation on March 19, NISA’s intelligence and strike teams neutralized Abdihamid Ali Abdullahi Maalim, a high-profile figure who was instrumental in connecting domestic Khawaarij operations with international terrorist groups. Reports indicate that Maalim was responsible for the acquisition and smuggling of weaponry and explosives into Somalia.
A previous strike on March 15 in the Ugunji area of Lower Shabelle resulted in the elimination of Suleyman Omar Fidow, also known by several aliases. Fidow was the supreme commander of the Khawaarij suicide bomber units and was poised to take over key positions following the death of the former explosives chief, Engineer Ismail.
These targeted strikes reflect the Federal Government’s ongoing strategy to dismantle the structural hierarchy of terrorist networks within Somalia. By systematically removing experienced tacticians and logistical coordinators, NISA and its international partners aim to disrupt the command-and-control structures of the militants.
The national security forces remain fully committed to exploiting these leadership vacuums and accelerating the stabilization of the affected regions. Further details on the operations and the continuing efforts against the Khawaarij network are anticipated in the coming days.
