Mogadishu — The Federal Government of Somalia’s Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation has initiated the first phase of a comprehensive strategic communications training program. Held in Mogadishu, the program, named “Strategic Communications for Security: Enhancing Information Verification, Storytelling Skills, and Social Cohesion, “targets media and public relations personnel from various government entities, private media journalists, and influential youth on social media platforms. The program’s objective is to elevate the quality and reliability of information dissemination, while empowering participants with fact-checking, storytelling, and community engagement abilities. Authorities emphasize that the training aims to increase awareness among young individuals and foster responsible media practices that uphold societal values and bolster national stability.
The training sessions are a response to the ongoing need for accurate and verified information in the country, which has faced challenges in the past with misinformation. The initiative brings together a diverse group of professionals and influencers who are expected to apply their newly acquired skills to enhance the credibility of the information they disseminate. By focusing on storytelling and community engagement, the program also seeks to bridge gaps between different segments of society, fostering social cohesion and understanding.
The program’s launch is part of the broader strategy to strengthen Somalia’s security messaging and public engagement. It is anticipated that the skills developed through this training will contribute to building trust in the government and its institutions, an essential factor in national reconstruction and development efforts.
