The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has achieved a significant milestone by surpassing its revenue target and collecting a record amount of R2 trillion.
As of 31 March 2026, SARS reported a net revenue of R2 010. 3 billion, marking an 8. 4% growth from the previous fiscal year.
This achievement is the first time in three decades that SARS has exceeded its target, with an additional R24. 7 billion collected beyond expectations.
The increase is attributed to stronger compliance efforts, with personal income tax and Value — Added Tax (VAT) being the primary contributors to the revenue. SARS Commissioner Edward Kieswetter highlighted the significance of this revenue announcement, emphasizing the privilege of taxpayers in contributing to the national fiscus.
