Rabat, Morocco — Moroccan pilgrims are set to benefit from a streamlined Hajj experience with the expansion of the Makkah Route program to Rabat-Salé Airport.
The program, a cornerstone of Saudi Vision 2030, is designed to simplify Hajj procedures for Moroccan pilgrims, offering comprehensive services including visa processing, health checks, and customs clearance at home airports.
The Makkah Route program, which has been successfully operational at Casablanca’s Mohammed V International Airport, will now serve an estimated 17,000 Moroccan pilgrims, accounting for half of the national contingent of 34,000. This expansion reflects Morocco’s commitment to enhancing the Hajj experience and fostering stronger bilateral relations with Saudi Arabia.
The launch of the program at Rabat — Salé Airport is expected to build on the efficiency demonstrated at the Casablanca hub, ensuring a seamless journey for pilgrims.
The Moroccan government and Saudi Arabian authorities have expressed their support for this expansion, viewing it as a positive development for both pilgrims and bilateral ties. Preparations for the launch have been comprehensive, including coordination with all departments represented in the Royal Commission in charge of the pilgrimage. Authorities have organized training sessions and orientation programs for pilgrims, ramped up awareness campaigns through national media and mosques, and produced guides covering each stage of the Hajj.
The Makkah Route program, which began in 2018, has served approximately 54,000 Moroccan pilgrims over the past five years, including nearly 11,000 last season. Globally, the initiative has benefited over 1. 25 million pilgrims across various countries.
As Morocco continues to expand its services, the expansion of the Makkah Route to Rabat — Salé Airport underscores the country’s role as a key player in the Islamic world and its commitment to promoting cultural and religious tourism.
