The WHO has initiated the 3rd Edition of the Integrated Disease Surveillance and Response (IDSR) training, enhancing the capabilities of frontline health workers across high-risk districts. This training encompasses the detection, reporting, analysis, and response to various diseases and public health incidents, ensuring a comprehensive surveillance cycle from case identification to outbreak investigation.
In addition, the WHO and the Zambia National Public Health Institute (ZNPHI) are piloting the Go. Data platform in Lusaka, Copperbelt, and Muchinga provinces. This digital tool aids in outbreak investigation and contact tracing, streamlining workflows and improving data quality for effective emergency response.
Moreover, Zambia is strengthening its preparedness for future pandemics through the validation of the National Pandemic Influenza Preparedness Plan.
The plan, developed with WHO support, focuses on early detection, rapid response, and equitable access to services, drawing on lessons from the COVID — 19 pandemic. These efforts are part of a larger strategy to enhance Zambia’s health security architecture, ensuring the country is equipped to manage both current and future health crises.
The initiatives are a testament to the collaborative efforts between the Zambian government, the WHO, and other partners, including Irish Aid and the Pandemic Fund.
