Sudan: Aid Shipments Arrive in Port Sudan Amidst Ongoing Conflict. Port Sudan, Sudan — Desperate humanitarian aid has arrived in Port Sudan as the ongoing conflict in Sudan intensifies the plight of the civilian population.
The shipment, totaling 2,428 tons, was dispatched through a Turkish-Qatari initiative and is the first cargo ship to reach Port Sudan since the war began in 2023.
Abdullah Rashid Al — Muhannadi, chargé d’affaires of the embassy of Qatar in Port Sudan, confirmed the arrival of the aid, which includes food supplies and shelter materials. Officials commented on the matter.
The conflict, which erupted between the Sudanese army and paramilitary rapid support forces, has led to widespread displacement.
Salwa Adam Buniya, commissioner for the humanitarian aid in Sudan, reported that there are now 145,000 displaced families in El Obeid, the capital of the North Kordofan state.
In the White Nile state, 15,000 people have been displaced, with the number expected to rise as the displacement continues.
The United Nations has described the situation as the world’s worst humanitarian crisis, reflecting the severity of the ongoing conflict.
The arrival of the aid is a critical development in the face of the escalating humanitarian crisis.
However, the situation remains fluid, and further assistance is expected to be required to address the needs of the affected populations.
