Khartoum, Sudan — An estimated 219,319 internally displaced persons (IDPs) have been recorded across Sudan’s Kordofan region since October 2025, according to the International Organization for Migration’s (IOM) Displacement Tracking Matrix (DTM).
The crisis, marked by 109 incidents of displacement, underscores the ongoing conflict and insecurity in the region. Between 25 October 2025 and 23 June 2026, DTM field teams reported that the majority of IDPs from the Kordofan region were recorded in Khartoum (75,005 IDPs), White Nile (39,442 IDPs), and North Kordofan (33,465 IDPs). Notably, there has been a sharp increase in IDPs moving to other states outside the Kordofan region, particularly to Khartoum.
The displacement crisis has been exacerbated by heightened insecurity, with an estimated 50,445 individuals displaced between 25 October and 17 December 2025.
The IOM DTM reports provide a detailed account of the displacement crisis, focusing on the movement of IDPs across different states, but do not delve into the specific causes of the displacement or the conditions in the areas of origin and destination.
The ongoing conflict in the Kordofan region is part of the larger Sudanese civil war, characterized by various incidents of violence and insecurity.
The Kordofan campaign, an ongoing military offensive, has seen control shift between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and other factions, including the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement–North (SPLM-N).
As the displacement crisis in Sudan’s Kordofan region continues to deepen, the international community and humanitarian organizations are called to address the needs of the affected populations and work towards a resolution of the ongoing conflict.
The future of the region remains uncertain, with the displaced communities facing significant challenges in the aftermath of the conflict.
