Drone Strike on Mosque in Central Sudan Kills Three Children. Khartoum, Sudan — Three children died and 13 others were injured when a drone hit a mosque in North Kordofan state during early-morning Quran lessons on Wednesday, according to local medical sources.
The Sudan Doctors Network said the strike on the Sheikh Ahmed al — Badawi Mosque came at dawn and accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) of carrying it out.
The group described the incident as “a grave assault on places of worship” and stated that attacks on children inside mosques amount to “a fully constituted crime. ” The same medical network reported that the RSF has previously targeted other religious sites, including a church in Khartoum and a mosque in el-Fasher. It called for urgent international pressure to halt strikes on civilians and to open safe corridors for medical and humanitarian relief.
Independent observers have not verified which faction operated the drone.
The RSF has not issued a public statement on the allegation.
The United Nations separately confirmed a surge in drone attacks on civilian infrastructure across South, North and West Kordofan in recent days.
A World Food Programme warehouse in Kadugli was hit on Tuesday night, though no party was named responsible. UN officials reiterated that schools, hospitals, and places of worship “cannot and should not be targeted. ” Between 29 January and 6 February the UN documented more than 90 civilian deaths and 142 injuries from drone strikes in the three Kordofan states, attributing the attacks to both the RSF and the Sudanese Armed Forces.
Targets have included markets, health facilities, and a WFP convoy. Further details are expected as investigators reach the affected areas.
