Uganda’s Museveni Engages Sudan’s RSF Leader in Peace Efforts Amid Ongoing Conflict. Entebbe, Uganda — President Yoweri Museveni of Uganda hosted a high-level meeting with the commander of Sudan’s Rapid Support Forces (RSF), Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, at the State House in Entebbe on Friday.
The talks, which focused on the ongoing conflict in Sudan and regional stability, marked a significant push for dialogue to end the protracted war.
According to official statements, Museveni emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue over military victory as the pathway to sustainable peace in Sudan. This stance aligns with his appointment by the African Union to lead a committee facilitating direct negotiations between Dagalo and Sudanese army chief Abdel Fattah al-Burhan. During the meeting, Dagalo acknowledged the deepening humanitarian and institutional crises in Sudan, underlining the urgent need for a peaceful resolution.
This marks the RSF leader’s first public international engagement since June 2025.
The conflict between the RSF and the Sudanese army, which commenced nearly three years ago, has escalated into one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Despite numerous ceasefire attempts, the fighting in Sudan persists.
Al — Burhan, speaking on Thursday, indicated his stance on a humanitarian truce proposed by the International Quad and the United States.
He said he would not agree to the truce until the RSF withdraws from captured cities and military sites.
The engagement between Museveni and Dagalo represents a critical step towards finding a resolution to the conflict.
While the path to peace remains uncertain, the dialogue initiated by Museveni offers a glimmer of hope for an end to the violence that has plagued Sudan and the broader region. Further details regarding the outcome of the meeting and potential next steps are expected to be released in the coming days.
