LIBREVILLE, Gabon — A free reconstructive surgery caravan, themed “Redonnons le sourire à nos enfants “(Give Our Children a Smile), was initiated on March 30, 2026, at the CHU Mère-Enfant Fondation Jeanne Ebori in Libreville. The event is sponsored by Gabon’s First Lady, Zita Oligui Nguema, and is a collaborative effort between the Fondation Ma Bannière and the Italian NGO Emergenza Sorrisi.
The caravan is focused on providing surgical treatment for children suffering from cleft lip and palate, as well as burn sequelae. The children were pre-selected following evaluation consultations that commenced on February 18, 2026. The surgical procedures are taking place at the CHU Mère-Enfant Fondation Jeanne Ebori and are anticipated to conclude on April 4, 2026.
This initiative aims to enhance the quality of life for underprivileged children by addressing the physical and emotional challenges associated with their conditions. The surgeries are expected to have a significant impact on the well-being of these children.
