Gold Mining Companies in Gabon Risk Immediate Suspension Over Compliance Issues BODY: LIBREVILLE, Gabon – The Gabonese Ministry of Mines and Geologic Resources has called for all gold mining companies to attend an mandatory compliance workshop in Libreville, starting July 16, to ensure the administrative, technical, and financial compliance of operators. Failure to comply with the requirements may result in immediate suspension of operations, the Gabonese Press Agency reported in an official statement.
The Minister of Mines and Geologic Resources, Sosthène Nguema Nguema, stated that the regularization campaign applies to both permit holders for exploration and exploitation.
The initiative is part of the government’s aim to strengthen the governance of the mining sector and ensure legal obligations are met by operators.
The workshops will take place from 8:30 am to 4:30 pm at the 2 December Building, 4th floor (door 3417). Permits for exploitation holders will be received in the morning of July 16, while those with exploration permits will be examined in successive groups on July 16 and 17. Companies with permits under renewal or facing appeals will be audited in the afternoon of July 17.
The ministry requires the presence of the head of each company or, in their absence, a mandatary with a notarized proxy. Representatives must present a physical dossier containing the company’s legal documents, technical reports and work programs, environmental compliance certificates, and evidence of payment of mining rights, taxes, and royalties.
The ministry warns that any company absent without a valid justification or presenting an incomplete dossier will have its mining title suspended immediately and be barred from accessing research or exploitation sites until compliance is achieved.
