Dangote Refinery Launches Second Round of Free Fuel Delivery Program in Nigeria BODY: Lagos, Nigeria — In a strategic move to bolster the domestic fuel market, the Dangote Refinery, Africa’s largest single-train refinery, has resumed its free fuel delivery program for the second time within two months. This initiative targets fuel marketers purchasing a minimum of 250,000 liters at a competitive rate of ₦1,165 per liter, accompanied by a 10-day credit term.
The program is currently operational across ten Nigerian states, including Lagos, Ogun, Rivers, Kaduna, Abuja, Delta, Kano, Imo, Anambra, and Nasarawa. This phase of the program is a part of Dangote’s Vision 2030 plan, which aims to enhance access to domestically refined fuel and streamline supply and distribution in Nigeria.
The first iteration of the program, which was launched earlier this year, saw the company offering petrol at an even lower price of ₦1,075 per liter.
The current pricing is a reflection of Dangote’s commitment to increasing fuel availability and reducing transportation costs, thereby lowering the overall distribution expenses.
In addition to the pricing and delivery initiative, Dangote is leveraging innovative approaches such as compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered trucks for deliveries. This eco-friendly move is expected to cut down on emissions and transportation costs, further reducing the cost of fuel distribution.
The Dangote Refinery’s approach has been met with a mix of optimism and caution. Industry experts anticipate that the program could significantly reduce fuel supply costs across the nation and reshape the downstream petroleum sector.
However, concerns have been raised by stakeholders, including the Petroleum Products Retail Outlets Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN), which warns of potential job losses and business closures in Nigeria’s petroleum value chain. Despite these concerns, the program is seen as a transformative step in the Nigerian fuel market.
As the Dangote Refinery’s free fuel delivery program progresses, it continues to spark conversations about the future of fuel supply and distribution in Nigeria, positioning the company as a key player in the ongoing evolution of the nation’s energy sector.
