Addis Ababa — Ethiopian Airlines ended the first half of 2025/26 with 168 aircraft in service, company data show, anchoring the largest intra-African network operated by any carrier.
The state — owned airline, which began scheduled flights in April 1946 with five surplus U. S. C-47s fitted with canvas benches, now serves 145 passenger and cargo destinations, 65 of them African cities.
Revenue for the 2024/25 financial year reached $7.6 billion on 19.03 million passengers and 785,321 tonnes of cargo; fleet average age is under seven years.
During the pandemic the group converted 45 passenger jets to cargo, avoided staff lay-offs and government bail-outs, analysts say, citing limited political interference in day-to-day management.
