Rabat, Morocco — Head of Government Aziz Akhannouch announced on Friday that Morocco is poised to exceed its target of creating over one million jobs by the end of 2026. This projection was shared during a meeting dedicated to assessing the nation’s employment strategy. Between 2021 and 2025, Morocco’s non-agricultural sectors have generated 850,000 jobs, averaging 170,000 annually.
In 2025, the job creation figure climbed to 233,000.
However, the government noted that this figure does not account for job losses in the agricultural sector due to ongoing drought conditions. Key sectors, including agriculture and tourism, have shown significant progress. Agricultural activities have increased by 7% year-on-year, while the tourism sector has created 92,000 jobs, surpassing the initial target of 80,000.
The government also discussed measures to support small and medium — sized enterprises, with 21 projects approved, totaling MAD 312 million in investments, including MAD 49 million in government support. Efforts to improve access to public contracts for these businesses and their role in local employment were also addressed.
The meeting also focused on expanding employment programs for young people, including those without diplomas. Existing initiatives like “Idmaj” and “Tahfiz” will be extended to new sectors, and a new program, “Tadarouj,” aims to integrate 100,000 trainees annually into the workforce, contributing to Morocco’s economic transformation.
