Franceville, Gabon — April 22, 2026 The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock, and Rural Development, Pacôme Kossi, along with the Minister of SMEs and Entrepreneurship, Zenaba Gninga Chaning, on Wednesday in Franceville, distributed equipment to 66 beneficiaries of a project aimed at developing the cassava value chain in the Haut-Ogooué region (southeast). This was reported by the Gabonese Press Agency.
The initiative, carried out in partnership with the UNOSSC, IBSA, and UNDP, saw the project launched from December 10, 2025, to January 4, 2026, receiving 97 applications, 68% of which came from the Haut-Ogooué.
The equipment provided will benefit 18 cooperatives, three SCOPs, one SME, and 44 individual producers. Technical support will be provided by ministry agents, who are scheduled to receive training from South African experts in the near future. Minister Kossi highlighted the national strategy centered around four axes, emphasizing that investment in the cassava sector responds to the objective of food sovereignty.
He announced the progressive expansion of this approach to other sectors such as cassava, corn, soy, and fruits. He also stressed the need for balanced territorial development, affirming that the transformation of the country must be built in all provinces.
The Minister also praised the support of international partners, particularly UNDP and several BRICS member countries, reiterating the government’s commitment to placing food systems at the heart of the national economy.
