CITY, Democratic Republic of the Congo — The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reports that as of 11 July 2026, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) has confirmed 1,926 cases of Ebola across Ituri, North Kivu, South Kivu, Haut-Uele, and Tshopo provinces.
The situation is particularly dire in Ituri Province, which accounts for 90. 9% of confirmed cases and 86. 2% of all reported deaths.
In a positive development, South Kivu Province has reached 42 consecutive days without a new confirmed case, marking the end of the enhanced surveillance period and signaling the potential for the official declaration of the end of the outbreak in the province.
However, challenges such as a lack of community trust, insecurity, funding shortfalls, limited treatment capacity, and gaps in contact tracing continue to impede outbreak containment efforts.
In neighboring countries, the humanitarian situation remains critical.
In the Central African Republic, clashes in Am — Dafock have displaced at least 11,000 people, while in Cameroon, a cholera outbreak has expanded in the Far North region, with 331 cases and 12 deaths recorded. Chad is also facing severe humanitarian needs among newly displaced people, with an OCHA-led assessment identifying critical needs across displacement sites and affected localities.
The Ebola outbreak in the DRC underscores the importance of robust health systems and international cooperation in responding to infectious disease outbreaks.
As the situation evolves, the global community watches closely, hoping for effective management and containment of this fast — growing epidemic.
