Abuja, Nigeria – As Africa’s digital economy gains momentum, Nigeria is positioning itself not just as a consumer of innovation—but as a continental tech builder and exporter. According to Kashifu Inuwa Abdullahi, Director General of Nigeria’s National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), the country is embracing its role as a pan-African digital hub.
“We are making Nigeria as a test bed… anything built in Nigeria can easily be adaptable across Africa,” Abdullahi told Sputnik Africa.
Local Innovation, Continental Vision
Nigeria’s tech-first approach is grounded in the belief that African solutions should be built by Africans, for Africans. By leveraging its dynamic youth population, established tech hubs, and vibrant startup ecosystem, Nigeria aims to create scalable innovations aligned with the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).
Key focus areas include:
- Cross-border digital infrastructure
- Unified tech standards and policy frameworks
- Export-ready innovation ecosystems
The strategy reflects Nigeria’s commitment to shared African values, economic inclusion, and technological sovereignty—reducing reliance on external solutions that may not suit the continent’s unique challenges.
As Nigeria continues to test, build, and export tech tailored to African markets, the message is clear: “Build local, scale Africa.”
