The École supérieure des arts et métiers (ESAM) and the Institut Universitaire des Sciences de Développement (IUSD) highlighted their digital and technical programs at the third edition of Gabon’s National Orientation Fair (SNO), which took place on April 23-25, 2026, at the Stade de l’Amitié d’Akanda in Libreville.
The event, themed “Vulgarisation des métiers et formations du numérique “(Popularisation of digital trades and training), aimed to foster a bridge between education and the evolving job market, with a particular focus on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) sector.
The SNO, organized by the Secrétariat d’Orientation Scolaire, Universitaire et Professionnelle (SOSUP) under the Ministry of National Education, serves as a key platform for students to explore academic and professional opportunities. This year’s fair saw ESAM and IUSD emphasize the significance of digital skills in Gabon’s economic development, aligning with the country’s growing reliance on the ICT sector.
According to reports, the Gabonese government has been investing in infrastructure and training to maintain a competitive edge in the digital economy. ESAM and IUSD showcased a variety of technical and digital programs, such as information technology, cybersecurity, and digital marketing, designed to equip students with the skills needed for the digital age. During the fair, students expressed interest in the new programs, with one student hoping to pursue marketing digital and become a community manager.
The focus on digital education is a timely one, considering the transformative impact of digital technology on the job market. Gabon faces a shortage of skilled workers in the ICT sector, which is impeding its economic growth.
The SNO aimed to address this challenge by connecting students with potential employers and offering practical training opportunities. Experts highlighted that the fair promotes not only technical and digital education but also encourages entrepreneurship and innovation among young Gabonese.
The role of government, private institutions, and international organizations in promoting technical and digital education was also discussed. While the fair demonstrated stakeholders’commitment to bridging the skills gap, experts emphasized the need for ongoing dialogue between educational institutions, the private sector, and government to ensure the relevance of the skills being taught.
The 2026 National Orientation Fair in Gabon underscored the critical role of digital skills in the country’s economic development. With ESAM and IUSD leading the charge in showcasing technical and digital programs, the event served as a vital platform for preparing Gabon’s youth for the challenges and opportunities of the digital age. Despite the challenges ahead, the fair highlighted a collective commitment to fostering a skilled workforce capable of driving Gabon’s growth in the digital era.
