Abuja, Nigeria — The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) faction headed by Tanimu Turaki has declared it “immoral and unjust” for the party to endorse President Bola Tinubu in the upcoming 2027 general election. This position was conveyed by the faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, during a recent interview on Arise Television.
In a bid to resolve internal divisions, the Turaki faction has called for a National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting on Friday to negotiate reconciliation terms with the faction led by Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike. Ememobong emphasized that the reconciliation efforts aim to be rational rather than emotional, underlining the need for logical decision-making.
Additionally, Turaki has lodged an appeal against a bench warrant issued by a federal high court in Abuja. The warrant was issued following his absence in court for a case involving allegations of providing false information to the police. His legal team has filed an appeal and a request for a stay of execution against the warrant.
The NEC meeting is set to review reconciliation terms between the two factions, including a proposal for the PDP to appear on the ballot for all elections, from gubernatorial to state assembly races. The Turaki faction’s rejection of Tinubu’s endorsement underscores the intricate political dynamics within Nigeria’s opposition party landscape. The outcome of the NEC meeting and the reconciliation process is anticipated to unfold in the coming days.
