JOHANNESBURG — Authorities have apprehended two senior officers and a civilian on suspicion of illegal dealing and unlawful possession of precious metals.
The Gauteng Counter — Intelligence Operations (GCI-OPS) led the arrests, which stem from allegations of illicit precious metals transactions, corruption, and related offenses. Police spokesperson Brigadier Athlenda Mathe confirmed the arrest, noting that the suspects were taken into custody following an investigation.
A J50 warrant of arrest, issued by a magistrate or judge, was used to authorize the police action. Mathe emphasized that these arrests are part of ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks involved in the illegal trade of precious minerals and corruption.
The suspects are scheduled to appear in court on Monday. This remains an unfolding investigation.
