CITY, Liberia — On April 24, the Chinese Ambassador to Liberia, Yin Chengwu, delivered a seminal lecture at the Gabriel L. Dennis Foreign Service Institute (FSI) of Liberia. Titled “How the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) Proposed by China Could Benefit Developing Countries, “the talk attracted over 100 attendees, including high-level officials and diplomatic trainees.
In his presentation, Ambassador Yin detailed the development process and key connotations of the BRI, emphasizing its potential to foster economic growth and global governance in developing nations. He highlighted the synergy between the BRI and the outcomes of the 2024 Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Summit, as well as China’s 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), emphasizing the strategic importance of the initiative for both China and its partner countries.
The event marked a significant milestone for the FSI, which aims to bolster Liberia’s diplomatic training and global engagement. It also provided a platform to discuss the BRI’s potential benefits for developing countries, particularly in terms of infrastructure development and economic growth. Ambassador Yin’s lecture was well-received, with attendees expressing enthusiasm for further engagement with the BRI and its potential impact on Liberia’s development trajectory.
While specific details of future BRI projects in Liberia are yet to be determined, the lecture signifies a pivotal step in fostering dialogue and cooperation between China and Liberia.
The lecture series is part of a broader effort by the FSI to update its curriculum and prepare diplomats to navigate the complexities of global politics and economics.
The success of the inaugural lecture series at the FSI is expected to pave the way for future events that will further deepen the understanding of international relations and global development among Liberia’s diplomatic corps.
