Gabon: Professional Training Center Shut Down Amid Strike. LIBREVILLE, Gabon — 16 February 2026 (AGP) – The Centre Basile Ondimba, a key professional training facility in Libreville, has been indefinitely closed following a strike by its teaching staff, according to the Gabonese Press Agency.
The action follows an assembly of public professional education syndicates on Monday, which decided to halt classes and close the center until their demands are met.
The strike is part of a broader movement aimed at securing the full payment of back salaries, which have accumulated over 17 months.
The syndicate’s president, Marc Gnassa Poutou, criticized the government and the ministry responsible for the failure to fulfill promises made in December 2025. These promises included the full payment of salary supplements for 2025 and the assurance that future payments would be made by the 15th of each month.
Despite the closure of most training centers, the one attached to the First Lady, Zita Oligui Nguema, remains operational.
The striking teachers are determined to continue their action until their demands are fully addressed.
The situation at the Centre Basile Ondimba highlights ongoing challenges in the professional education sector in Gabon, where the government’s promises of improved working conditions and salary payments have yet to be realized.
Further details are expected.
