The visit, described as a “renewed chapter “in bilateral relations, is set to boost trade and strengthen diplomatic ties, according to Nigeria’s presidency.
The record — high trade between Nigeria and the UK is expected to be further enhanced during the two-day event.
During the visit, Tinubu and his wife engaged in informal discussions with Prince William and Catherine, Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, and later took a carriage ride to Windsor Castle, where they were greeted by King Charles and Queen Camilla.
The royal family presented items from the UK’s colonial rule of Nigeria, which ended in 1960.
The state banquet on Wednesday evening was a lavish affair, and on Thursday, Tinubu is scheduled to meet with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer and members of the Nigerian diaspora community in the UK.
The last Nigerian state visit to the UK took place in 1989.
