DATILINE: Maputo, Mozambique – A new wave of displacement has swept through the Ancuabe District in Mozambique, with escalating attacks and fear of violence prompting families to seek refuge in Chiure District.
According to the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the CCCM Cluster, approximately 581 households (2,066 individuals) have been identified across various relocation sites, including Maningane 1 and 2, Chiote, and Megaruma.
The IOM, in collaboration with the Chiure District Government and other humanitarian partners, is supporting a coordinated emergency response, focusing on site-level coordination and community engagement sessions.
Immediate needs include emergency shelter support, food assistance, and the construction of additional communal latrines, as existing sanitation facilities are insufficient.
Displaced populations in the area are reluctant to return due to ongoing insecurity, emphasizing the need for a comprehensive multi-sectoral response to address the immediate and evolving needs of affected populations.
